KTF Revives EPOP Exercise as Safety Precaution for Tourism Industry

Kenya Tourism Federation Safety Communication Centre (KTF-SCC) is in the process of planning for Election Period Operating Procedures (EPOP) during the forthcoming general election in August.

EPOP observers are positioned in the tourism circuits to keep watch and report through KTF-SCC any disturbances and potential disruptions to tourism operations. KTF-SCC works closely with the concerned authorities including Kenya Police, TPU, KWS and the relevant Ministries to facilitate emergency response on need basis.

Based on reports from the field, KTF-SCC provides alerts to the industry to exercise due caution and those on the routes to avoid trouble spots in case of any.

Owing to security measures such as this, Kenya is among the countries worldwide that record the lowest rates of tourist related incidents

  • EPOP cushions the tourism industry from the risk of election related unrest which would disrupt tourist itineraries
  • EPOP supports business continuity by safeguarding the tourism industry from losses that would interrupt business, damage tourist experience and tarnish the destination.
  • EPOP helps sustain Kenya's position as one of the countries worldwide that record the lowest rates of tourist related incidents through effective security management.

The above is made possible through the collective effort of the tourism industry under the umbrella Kenya Tourism Federation and with public sector partnership - Kenya Police through Tourist Police Unit, Kenya Wildlife Service, Ministry of Tourism amongst others.

In this regard, members are invited to the 1st briefing meeting on Tuesday, May 30th at 9.00am. Contact your trade association for details on how to participate.

Participation is limited to operations managers only; one per company. There are 35 slots available on first come, first served basis.

Confirmations by those who wish to participate must be received by Friday, 26th May.
